OTM Grading Rubric

This guide helps our members vote for the campus winning OTMs. If you want to write a winner, follow the rubric below!

Criteria Examples or tips for success Rubric Points

SUBSTANCE

Strong OTMs should be filled with achievements and recognizable characteristics. There should be 2-3 specific examples of the nominees performance. Good- Suzy deserves RA of the Month for April because she held an educational program around study skills, created a unique interactive bulletin board, and went out of her way to support a staff member in need. (Provide details for each example)

Bad-Suzy deserves RA of the month because she is just so great and everyone loves her.

1=No specific examples given

2=One example given with little supporting evidence

3=One strong example of excellence given

4=Multiple examples of excellence provided

5=3+ examples of excellence with full details

MONTH OF SPECIFICITY

Only achievements within the month of nomination are relevant information. Any mention of actions from past months does not factor into the award. Good-Caleb went above and beyond in his executive board duties during the month of October, when he…..

Bad-Caleb has been great all year. In August he did this, and in September he did this…..

1=Only includes examples from other months

2=Contains mostly examples from past months

3=Contains a mix of examples from this month and last

4=Highlights mostly examples from this month

5=Only discusses achievements within the given month

ADHERE TO CATEGORY

All substance in the OTM should directly adhere to the category description. Reread the category before judging the OTM. There are some subtle but important differences between categories like student staff of the month versus RA of the Month, whether an OTM belongs in the spotlight category, etc. 1=OTM is in the completely wrong category

2=OTM only discusses the category every once in a while

3=OTM can fit in this category, but is not tailored to it

4=OTM is mostly tailored to the category description

5=OTM discusses all the major points within a category

WORD COUNT

OTMs should be thorough and complete. More words allow for more details and achievements. Keep in mind that creativity can make up for word count. A poem, or something with a video component, doesn’t have to have 600 words attached to it. At the same time, regionally winning OTMs are rarely under 400 words. 1=200 words or less

2=200-300 words

3=300-400 words

4=400-500 words

5=500+ words

FORMATTING/SPELLING/GRAMMAR

OTMs should be formatted in an easy to understand manner. Use paragraphs and write your OTM in Microsoft word first. Provide spacing between paragraphs to make it easier to read. 1=Poor grammar, multiple spelling mistakes

2=Small but noticeable mistakes

3=Article has some flow but with poor formatting

4=Good flow with solid formatting, small spelling errors

5=Visually appealing, flows well, proper grammar throughout
